What is your occupation history?
Fernando is ambitious to discover new and innovative ways to create an equitable approach toward city and educational policy making for all Colorado residents. After many years of leadership in Denver Public Schools where he managed to instrument change in some of the most challenging schools, Fernando has taken on a philanthropic position as the Senior Director of Partnerships and Programs for Colorado "I Have a Dream" Foundation.
Where did you go to school?
He received his bachelor’s of Arts in History from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and later pursued his M.A.Ed. from Union University. Fernando is a third-year ELPS doctoral student at the University of Denver. Fernando is concentrating his studies in Education Leadership, and Policy studies to close the achievement gap for communities.
What are your primary goals as a Council Member?
I am committed to listening to what our residents are saying and act in the City’s best interest and the residents’ best interest. I believe that together, we all play an important role in helping make our city the best it can be.

Centennial City Council should reassure the public that scientists are back in the driver’s seat by publicly committing to a hands-off relationship by supporting the FDA and CDC, declaring that no political influence will be brought to bear on decisions or timelines regarding product approval and disease control guidance to get ahead of the current pandemic.
As millions of frontline essential workers faced deadly risks over the past year, the federal government failed to adequately protect them. The health and safety of workers is my priority and our moral imperative. Our frontline workers are being hit the hardest during this pandemic. We have to think differently to support this our community that in many cases are working and collecting low wages, limited health care, with little assurance in equity.
One of the most urgent local and national priorities for restoring civil engagement and a normal quality of life is stabilizing family structures and income. Getting our children back in school safely is key to allowing us a clear post-pandemic response that is family centered.
Building a community takes more than simply assembling bricks and mortar, understanding the local issues, and being able to read a financial statement. PEOPLE, (Centennial Residents) play a foundational role in developing a successful community development plan or initiative. Our residents and community groups who understand their neighborhood’s needs and have a stake in its success are an indispensable requirement for neighborhood transformation and improvement.
Social justice movements are alive and should not be feared. Centennial is a beacon of hope for what is possible when city governance works with law enforcement to find the right way. We all can choose the issues that most stir our passions for justice to ensure that Centennial is leading the State and the nation in this issue.

To ensure the Sierra Club only endorses the best environmental candidates, our grassroots process begins at the chapter level. Volunteers examine each candidate's record and distribute questionnaires to candidates who meet our criteria. State volunteers then hold a first vote on endorsement. The Sierra Club National Political Team, made up of volunteers and staff from around the country, then holds a second vote to confirm the endorsement. Throughout our process, volunteers and staff evaluate the environmental and public health records of candidates and their experience of being a true champion on our issues.
We believe that no matter where we come from or what our color, most of us want the same things. We want to earn enough to thrive, not just survive, and leave a better future for our kids. We want healthy food and clean water, safe neighborhoods and a safe world. We want to be free.
